Peabody - Main Street Realignment

Green is providing traffic, roadway and landscape design services to the City of Peabody Community Development and Planning Department for the Main Street Corridor Realignment Project. The project includes implementing various traffic calming and pedestrian safety measures to improve the overall safety of the project corridor for pedestrians and vehicles. Improvements include reducing the roadway from two lanes in each direction to one lane in each direction with a center left turn lane; design of “bump-outs” and accented crosswalks to reduce speeds and increase pedestrian safety; signal improvements at Peabody Square, Washington Street and Howley Street to offset the lane reductions and to enhance traffic flow and safety in addition to significant landscaping improvements to help establish a more aesthetic and inviting downtown.  Please click on the links below to view artistic renderings of the completed project along with a colorized design plan.

The project has included extensive community outreach and coordination with the various City departments to help develop a design which meets the concerns and needs of many stakeholders. A final design has been approved by the City Council and preparation of bid documents is underway with an expected start of construction in the early Spring of 2012. The estimated construction cost is $1.5 million.
